I'd love to share a recent poem. It's called The Calling, and it came through when I was in my Akashic Records, asking my guides if they had a message they wanted to share with me. I had no idea that they were going to tell me the heart of the story of my soul's journey, though I recognized it right away, because it came through the form of poetry, and they know I write poems daily as part of my spiritual practice!
Transformation has been a central theme in my life, as I have shed one layer after another working to accept, understand embrace and ultimately love the "me" that emerges each time. I love, then, that the butterfly became the central image of what I came to call my "Personalized Soul Poem", representing, as she does, the beautiful nature of change.
May this be a calling for you to step into your full, beautiful self! And if you would like me to go into your Records and find your own personalized soul poem, you can find out more about that on my Reiki/Healing page, here, or email me!
The Calling
Hush, dear child,
Can you feel it?
Can you feel the holy quiet descend,
And then the soft, loving voice,
Asking you to imagine, for a moment,
That you are a butterfly,
And have the magical ability
To take yourself everywhere
Your excited mind desires to go,
To seem to be in two places at once?
Here and there.
Fluttering on a leaf,
Flitting between treetops,
Dipping low, floating high,
One eye downward, to our beautiful earth,
One eye upward, to our heavenly sky.
This can be you.
But just like a butterfly
Exalting in a lightness of being,
You, too, come from heavier, denser beginnings,
A density on the cusp of change.
Before you can be a butterfly, you see,
You live a whole other, full life,
Without ever knowing what it is like,
To fly.
You don’t know how you know,
But you do,
And it’s an inner knowing,
That you are destined for something else,
That a greater life awaits you.
You don’t chase it,
But this knowing propels you forward,
All the days of your life.
And then it’s time.
To rest, to pause, to take a moment
To remove yourself
From the life you’ve been living,
And the calling is so great,
You wonder if it will take you
Right over the edge,
Into an abyss that should frighten you,
But it doesn’t,
Because that’s how ready you are.
Readier than you’ve ever been.
This gives you the patience
To lie still and unmoving,
In the dark,
As your own great will for change
Creates a chrysalis around your being,
And lets you sleep,
For as long as you need.
And so you do,
Until your inner knowing once again
Reaches you, deep inside,
And you awaken,
Not knowing what you will find,
Or who you will be,
Who finds it.
But this does not frighten you,
Because it has always been
Your destiny,
To awaken to you really are,
In all of your truth,
And all of your beauty.
You emerge from your place
Of rest in the dark,
And discover that, for the first time
In your beautiful life,
You have wings.
Your earthbound life
Has given you all you needed
To nourish and sustain you,
All the while moving you forward
To your true calling,
To fly. To be free.
And here you are.
You have arrived,
Having burst through the shell
That has protected you,
But also contained you,
And you will not be contained again.
You spread your wings,
Feeling the warm breeze
Whispering across your body
As though to welcome you
To your new life.
You shiver, a ripple of the life
That awaits you,
Causing you to shudder with anticipation.
You greet the wind,
As you greet the sun, moon and stars,
With a delighted flap of your wings,
As you realize that you can now do
What you have always been meant to do.
What you were always going to do.
To fly.
And that’s exactly what you do,
In a sky that welcomes you,
Above a ground that smiles
At your courage
And is happy to see you take off,
Surrounded by all the other creatures
Flying right next to you,
In a world that has never felt
So big, so full of possibility,
And so ready to encounter you
From a place of love
That you can feel deeply
In your heart.
For this is what it means to fly,
To be free:
It is to understand the nature
Of your own great power
That can never leave you,
As long as you love every single
Part of who you are,
And vow to live every single moment
Of the rest of your life
In the truth of this great love
That cannot be broken,
That soars in the great skies,
And cracks us open to heal,
Connecting us all,
heart to heart to heart.
